The Kind of Leadership You Can't Force
It's built in moments most people overlook.
A few months back, I received something I didn’t expect.
I was named Changemaker of the Year 2026 by the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter.
Out of 16 nominees.
When they shared the reason, one line stayed with me:
“For leaders driving measurable community transformation.”
I’ve been sitting with that word.
Measurable.
Because most of the work I do doesn’t feel loud.
It looks like:
Conversations that shift how someone sees a situation.
Leaders pausing before reacting.
Teams choosing a different response under pressure.
Small moments. Quiet decisions.
Things that don’t always show up on a dashboard.
And yet…that’s where change actually happens.
This is what I’ve come to understand about leadership.
The most impactful leaders don’t force change.
They influence it.
They don’t push harder, control more, or demand alignment.
They create the conditions where better decisions happen: through how they listen, how they respond under pressure, and how they make others feel seen.
That’s the work behind Growing Your EQ.
And now, Growing Your EQ Youth, where we’re building these skills earlier, before patterns harden.
Not teaching people what to do.
Helping them see differently, so they choose differently.
Because real change doesn’t happen when people comply.
It happens when they decide.
One question to sit with this week
Where in your leadership are you trying to force alignment…
instead of creating the conditions for people to choose it themselves?
And impact is rarely loud.
It’s built in moments most people overlook.
